Overview
Description: During this project, students learn about various types of hazardous weather events and research ways to prepare for hazardous weather events. This project concludes with a design challenge where students create an object, service, or plan to reduce the impact of a severe weather event in their community. They will use computer-aided design and makerspace equipment to produce a prototype or visual representation of their solution. This project also includes a homework assignment to write an emergency preparedness plan.
Distance Learning: This project includes an in-person learning and distance learning option. The in-person learning option can be completed with a 3D printer or laser cutter/engraver.
Standards: This project aligns to Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Next Generation Science Standards, International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and Florida CPALMS Standards for third grade through fifth grade.
